I need a size 17 motor to move an x-y axis. I need about 20 oz-in at 2RPS for the x-axis and 10 oz-in at 1.5 RPS for the y-axis. My driver is only capable of 800 mA of output current. Any suggestions?

Six Sigma Black Belt certified Director of Quality & Materials: Robert Carl

Robert A. Carl, Director of Quality & Materials of Lin Engineering, has received a certified Six Sigma Black Belt recognition (ASQ-SSBB) from the American Society for Quality. The ASQ-SSBB is given to those individuals who have reached a significant level of professional recognition indicating proficiency in and a comprehension of Six Sigma principles and practices. Through this recognition Robert has also implemented the Six Sigma way here at Lin Engineering. Not only has Robert implemented Six Sigma standards at the Santa Clara, CA manufacturing and design headquarters, our production managers have followed in his path to train Lin’s overseas facilities in order to meet USA standards for quality.

A Certified Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional who applies Six Sigma philosophies and principles, including supporting systems and tools in a variety of business situations. A Black Belt demonstrates team leadership and manages team dynamics in all aspects of the DMAIC model (design, measure, analyze, improve, control) and can maintain Six Sigma principles. Black Belts understand lean enterprise concepts and can identify non-value-added activities using specific tools. Most importantly, a Black Belt can successfully train others in following the DMAIC model and Six Sigma philosophies and principles.

Robert Carl describes his achievement in his own words, “I’m honored to have received this certification. It required a lot of hard work; not only by me but by my teammates who performed so well on our projects and I’d like to thank them for their support. However, this is only the first step in a long journey of improvement and success. I look forward to the opportunities it will provide to help our customers to become more successful.”

Lin motors have been following high standards of quality since 1991. With the ASQ-SSBB recognition from our Director of Quality & Materials, Robert Carl, we can proudly say that Lin motors now have the capability to achieve Six Sigma standards of quality.

RoHS Compliancy
Lin Engineering’s RoHS Policy

Lin Engineering is dedicated to customer satisfaction; because of this we are committed to offering products compliant with the EU RoHS directive (and similar initiatives) on or before the specific dates set forth for those applicable laws and regulations.

Some industries such as aerospace and extreme environmental application cannot accept lead free and RoHS compliant components due to a higher requirement for safety and extreme conditions.

Therefore Lin Engineering is offering specific versions of product which comply with Hazardous Materials regulations. Nearly all the standard motors LIN offers can be produced as RoHS compliant products, and new part numbers will be assigned. Some custom motors may prove difficult to convert to RoHS versions due to accessory components. Please be assured that Lin Engineering will provide support to our customers to locate compliant accessories.

If you need to modify an existing motor already being ordered or need a new motor to be compliant, please contact Lin Engineering for more information regarding specifics to each product and how to obtain RoHS compliant products.

Customized R101

The R101 is a bipolar driver/indexer capable of output current ranging from 0.2 to 2.5 Amps Peak with step resolutions from full, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8.  This intelligent driver is not only easy to use but is extremely affordable when compared to similar products.

Now, Application Engineers from Lin Engineering are able to customize your R101 to enable stand alone operation.  Some of these customizations have included reprogramming the inputs of the R101 to communicate directly with a keypad interface or re-coding the homing command to the index phase of an encoder. Once the R101 is customized, they are pre-programmed and shipped so that they may be dropped into your existing system.

With its new customization ability, the R101 can be modified to be the ideal solution for your application.   If you have a special requirement in mind, please contact us at sales@linengineering.com for more information.

Q:
What is PDT?
David D.,
Los Angeles , CA
A: Hi David: Pole Damping Technology™ (PDT) was created to give our customers the smoothest motion possible. PDT creates a more accurate and smooth motion profile. PDT optimizes the microstepping performance of the step motor by outputting the correct amount of run and hold current to the motor. For more information on PDT, see the following webpage: http://www.linengineering.com/site/products/Pole_Damping.htm

Q: Are Lin Engineering and Lin Motors two separate companies?
John Ko, San Jose, CA
A: Good question John. No, Lin Engineering and Lin Motors are not two separate companies. Lin Engineering, Inc. is the name of our corporation. Lin Motors is a nick name that has been used when referring to our company and our motors.

A: We answer questions like this every day at Lin engineering J. Williams. Assuming that you have at least 24 V available, we would recommend our 4218S-52 rated at 0.52 Amps for your X-axis, and 4018S-10P rated at 0.55A for your Y-axis. For torque speed curves for the recommended motors or if you need any other motor selection assistance please contact us directly by phone or email at 408-919-0200 or sales@linengineering.com .
