•NEMA Size 34, 2 Phase, 1.8° Bipolar Step Motor
w/ Built-In Microstepping Driver
• Operates from +24 to 75 VDC
• Selectable phase currents from 0.5 to 7.0 Amp Peak (in 0.1A increments)
• Step Resolutions include: Full step, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x,
and 256x microstepping
• Four selectable damping modes
• Three optically isolated control inputs (step, direction change, enable/disable)
• Hold current settings from 0 to 7 Amps (in 0.1 Amp increments)
• Pole Damping Technology for smooth motion
• Multiple motor windings available upon request
• Easy to use GUI interface for setting parameters
• Power supply voltage can be any value as long as the driver output current is controlled at the rated current.
• Call Lin Engineering for additional bipolar, Unipolar, or T-connection torque curves.
• Performance, use, and appearance specifications of the products listed here are subject to change without notice • Motor currents are listed in RMS (Amp/Phase and RMS are the same value. Peak Current is 1.4 times the Amp/Phase or RMS value).
The Silverpak 34D/DE now comes with a GUI interface to set the following parameters:
• Step resolution
• Run Current
• Hold Current
• Percent Decay (damping mode)
• Step pulse sensing (rising of falling edge)
• Direction of rotation upon power on
(CW or CCW)
• Enable pin to be active High or Low
Furthermore, the GUI interface allows you to do the following:
• View the firmware code
• Change the address of the motor unit
• Read existing settings
• Communicate via RS485
Pole Damping™ Technology (PDT) enhances step motor performance by dampening each full step in order to create a more accurate and smooth motion profile. Microstepping the step motor will optimize Pole Damping™ Technology. PDT outputs the correct amount of run and hold currents to the motor. Thus, it will overcome the step motor’s natural tendency to want to forcefully pull towards the full step ON position.
Currently, the Silverpak 23D integrated motor + drive and the R325 Microstepping Driver contain Pole Damping Technology.
There are 3 connections on the Silverpak 34D. Looking at the motor with the shaft pointing upwards, the leftmost 3-pin connector is for RS485 communication. The middle connector is a 12-pin control functions connector. The rightmost conenctor is a 2-pin connector for main power.
P2 CONNECTOR PINOUTS
Pin
Function
Description
1
No Connection
The pin is not used
2
Opto supply input
This pin requires 5VDC to supply the optically isolated inputs (use resistors if supply is greater than 5V) See user manual for details
3
Disable/ Enable input
This input is used to enable/disable the driver/motor. By default, the unit is enabled. Tie to ground in order to disable unit. When disabled, no power is sent.
4
Internal 5V supply (output)
The 34D has an internal 5V supply. To use this as your opto supply, connect pins 2 and 4 together. By doing so, the inputs are no longer optically isolated; the main power and this 5V supply share the same circuit.
5
Ground
Same as main ground.
6

Internal use
7
No connection
This pin is not used
8
Step Pulse Input
This pin takes in step pulses from a controller, PLC, or signal generator. The step pulse must be a clean TTL squarewave signal, max of 10 mAmps current. If needed, use resistors to limit it to 10mAmps.
9
Direction Input
This input is used to change the direction of rotation. By default, it rotates counterclockwise (CCW). By tying this pin to ground, the motor should rotate CW.
